Day 1-Summer Stem Challenge

Today’s challenge: students were tasked with designing and building  a free standing tower using only newspaper and masking tape. The tallest tower in each class won. We had fun designing, problem solving, and building. A few teams got their towers to the ceiling.

October as flown by, and it is hard to believe we are nearing the first of November. 6th Grade ELA has been having fun exploring the classic tale of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. We have been working in Lit. Groups to analyze character traits, make inferences, and cite textual evidence. We will be completing the book this week. Next week, students will create their own conclusion to the story of Ichobod Crane, to hypothesize what may have happened next in the life (or perhaps death...) of this quirky and interesting character.

Reminders: Students should be working to complete their independent books to meet their Quarterly AR goals.

3rd Grade Writing
We have begun practicing routines with Daily Grammar practice,
as well as Daily Writing. We are currently working to understand the
steps in the Writing Process, and we have begun creating Personal Narratives.
6th Grade ELA
In grammar, we are working on reviewing basic skills. In writing we are
working on establishing the routines of daily writing with journals, and
using proper grammar and mechanics. In reading, we have taken our STAR
tests, and have begun reading with AR books. Students have daily reading
homework Mon-Thurs. They should be reading their independent book each
night for approx. 20 minutes, and then have a short 3 sentence reading log to
complete. This reading homework is due on Fridays. Please remind your student
to be reading each night.
6th Grade Computers
We have begun learning Google Suite basics. We have also begun establishing
our typing skills with daily typing practice lessons.
Wolf Time
We have had a fun start. So far we have created: slime, marble painted rocks,
“Brookies”, Orange fruit smoothies, and walking tacos. Students will be researching a
new theme each week to find a recipe and a craft they want to make.
Students will submit ideas for recipes and crafts, and we will vote on one of each to
make each week. Be watching for a list of projects and supplies needed to be
coming home soon.
HS Desktop Media
We have finished our first 2 units on Google Drive and Google Docs. We are now
starting on Unit 3- Google Slides.
Personal Finance
We have been working on researching careers, building basic resumes,
understanding basic expenses, and creating a personal budget.
